Final Images - Photos of the Mockup Soon to Come
So this darn lace was giving me some trouble!!! Apparently it is very difficult to draw lace in vectors. I probably made about 6 difference patterns and searched for different pictures, took a photo of some lace, a doily, etc, until I finally decided on the one that I did. There were so free vector-based laces online but I felt like I should make it on my own! So I did and this is how it turned out...

Some images of the Ginger Snaps, or Ginger Snap-shots, if you will...
Not sure if I'm going to use the single cookie images, or cut out maybe two together or something. It seems sort of weird just floating on the box so we'll see. I am always working on a lace pattern for the inner part of the box.

Project 05
Well the Ginger Snaps I wanted to use for the project are apparently a part-time item in Kroger and the area they are normally sold is now filled with Holiday-type foods so I had to buy the Kroger brand but the actual cookies look the same (they just don't taste the same)
Anyway...
I chose the Ginger Snaps brand that I did because the bag is made out of that terrible silver-y foil-like plastic that rips the whole bag when you try to barely open it. So I end up putting them in other little baggies of servings anyways, but what a waste! Also, since they are currently sold in a bag, the cookies break and crumble and there are crumbs everywhere when you bag unexpectedly rips open completely.
I am going to use a tall box where the cookies can stack on top of each other and fit snugly - to reduce breakage! Also the packaging of the ones I buy now is horrid. Ginger Snaps, in my opinion should be classic and sweet and pretty - so that is what I'm going for.
I am going to take some photos of them in a really pretty lace-looking white bowl and put that on the front package, or maybe just the cookies themselves. I chose a soft blue color to help contrast the burnt-red or brown color of Ginger Snaps.

Project 03 - Crit.
Some things I'd like to change on this project before putting it into my portfolio are that I'd like to possibly change the background to tan (not white) or make the photo a real photo but sepia tone, or change the black lines to brown. This will help it to look "home-ier".
Positives:
Good font choice
The use of the stairs shows the feeling of a "tour" and evokes a warm or inviting feeling
Negatives:
I knew I did this once I was ready to matte but it was too late... My project was made in tabloid size and it should have actually been a bit larger in order to bleed off the board correctly.

Project 04 - Book Cover
I have chosen Dracula for my book cover.
Here are some covers of this book already...
So many available for inspiration!
My thoughts on this are lots of red, black, and white. I also like the simplicity of a few drops of blood (5th from the bottom). So... let the sketching begin!

Project 03 - Event Poster
The guidelines for this project are to create an 11x17 poster for an event recently attended or happening in the near future. Some of my ideas for an event are:
As much as I want to do Wicked for my event, I worry that I won't be able to get away from their current, and very successful poster. I really like the poster they have now and it is a bold move to try to make a new one, especially when I see nothing wrong with the first.
I really enjoyed the Tour of Homes event also but I was NOT a fan of their program. I did not like the look of the poster, and I even remember wanting to offer to make their posters and some imaging for them next year if I decide to volunteer for this again.
Grant Park Tour of Homes:
KEY POINTS-
I will try to find my old program to scan in, but here is a tiny image I could find on the web that is similar to the program....
- Cheetah Girls (TOO OLD)
- Gwen Stefani (TOO OLD)
- No Doubt
- Blink 182
- Grant Park Tour of Homes
- Wicked

Project 02 Critique
Positives:
-good idea making it appeal to both genders
-easy to recognize the company at hand
-good contrasting colors
-interesting that the faces are the least "real" looking, and so the focus becomes the Sim in the game.
Negatives:
-the 3x10.5 is a little weak; could have more at the bottom
-the 3x10.5's text is less significant; lose the impact of 'other self' as it gets smaller (possibly use the same text from the 5x5?)

Project 02 Final Images
The idea of this project was to take an actual company and create a collage ad campaign. The ads are meant to go together in one series like you would see in a magazine or on a billboard, hence the variety in sizes. We were allowed to change the tagline, but were to keep the logo as it was. I chose to change the tagline for Sims to "Be Your Other Self". I stuck with the Sims in general, rather than the Sims 3, although I do like their tagline, PLAY WITH LIF3. Here are the final images of my ads:

Project 02 continued...
I am thinking for my ad, I'm going to design a huge plumbob as my collage. I'm going to take lots of shiny, ice, hard-candy - looking images from magazines and pack it all together into a plumbob. Then in order to go with my tagline, Be Your Other Self, I am going to add a very generic head under the plumbob. This should help all consumers and viewers be able to identify with the Sims. They can picture the top of that head, as them, being their, "other self". I don't know what image I'm going to use for the head yet but I think I just want from the eyes up or at least not the whole face or head. Oh and in case you guys were wondering what a plumbob is... here's an image of one:

Critique - Project 01
Craft Issues:
-make sure there are no air bubbles
-beware of smudges!
-measure board size and paper size
-especially if applying for the B.F.A. program
-center images
-check your colors when printing
Illustrator Issues:
-make anchor points invisible
-zoom in and inspect!
-use guidelines
Good Logos:
-"scale-able"
-both the Initials and the Image are portrayed successfully
-simple, but with character
-pertain to the cause/business/client (professional, child-like, simple, romantic, etc.)
-letters, name, objective, subject should be clearly read and visible
-make your intentions clear
-make your intentions clear
Final images for Project 01:
Illustrative:
Typographical:
***disclaimer: the colors do not show up quite like they printed or as they look in illustrator
(the pink is a pale salmon-y bubblegum pink and the pale green is more of an olive color)
Comments on my Logos:
Illustrative-
-good color choice
-increase the weight variation in the letters (way thicker)
-possibly hand write name, scan in and add to logo
Typographical- -increase the weight variation in the letters (way thicker)
-possibly hand write name, scan in and add to logo
-up the stroke on the piercing (does not hold up from afar)
-possibly move name up a tiny bit (closer to logo)

Company Research for Project 02
In our second project, we are basically making an ad campaign using an existing company.
Here are some companies I am thinking about using for Project 02:
Garanimals
Doc Martens
The Sims
Neopets
Google+
And that's what I've come up with so far... I want something fun! I usually like cute/creepy things. But I can't think of any product or company that combines those two. They aren't two adjectives that are typically used together... :/
